Frequently Asked Questions by Prospective Members

Can I come along and attend a few classes before I join?

You are welcome to visit any sessions at the Art Room at 171A Elizabeth Street West,

Tauranga. We are there most days Monday – Friday between 9.30am -3.30pm. You can

participate in most sessions for one month prior to joining.

What is the process for joining TSA?

Once you have decided you would like to join TSA you are required to complete the online Application Form and Subscription Payment. You will find these on our website by clicking on Apply for Membership. We will acknowledge that we have received your application by email. Then at our monthly Executive Committee Meeting your application will be presented. We will email you to let you know if you have been approved for membership.

Do I need to live in Tauranga to be a member of TSA?

The majority of our members live in the Bay of Plenty but some live in other parts of New

Zealand and overseas too. There are no restrictions about location.

Are there age restrictions to join TSA?

There are no age restrictions for joining TSA.

Our constitution states that:

Any person under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a nominated adult at all

times and at all sessions or activities run by TSA including Art in the Park.

Any application from a person under the age of 14 must include a signed declaration

from the parents/guardian nominating 3 adults, any one of which may accompany

(and be responsible for) the applicant.

The subscription amount will be the same as for an adult subscription.

Conditions of membership will be the same as for an adult membership.

When do I need to pay my fees?

Fees are paid as part of the Online Application process.

How much are the fees?

Our financial year runs from 1April to 31 March. The fees are $75 for a full year or $35 if you

are joining after 1 October. If your fees are paid before 30 April you get a $5 discount and

you only need to pay $70 for the year.

Are the weekly sessions tutored?

Most of our weekly sessions are untutored. Members usually work on a project of their own choice, but our members are happy to give helpful suggestions if you want them to. In the “Open Studio” sessions on the timetable, people use whatever medium or style they want to.

Can I enter competitions?

To enter the competitions you must be a financial member two weeks before the Competition you want to enter. There is no paperwork to

complete and there is no fee for entering. You must follow the hanging and labelling

instructions that are provided prior to the event and turn up at the venue on the day at the

correct time.

Can I exhibit at Expo?

To enter the Expos you must be a financial member 2 months before the Expo you want to participate in. There is detailed instructions that are

sent out before this event. You need to complete the registration form before registration

closes and pay the entry fee. You must follow the hanging and labelling instructions that are

provided prior to the event and turn up at the venue on the day at the correct time.

Can I exhibit at Art in the Park?

To exhibit at Art in the Park you must be a financial member. Dates and times are advertised

in our monthly newsletter.

How do I find out what sessions are on each week?

The timetable/calendar for the month is on the last page of the newsletter and it is displayed

on the door of the Art Room at 171A Elizabeth Street West, Tauranga. You can also visit https://www.taurangaart.com/whats-on for the latest information.

How do I find out about workshops are on?

The workshops are advertised on our website at https://www.taurangaart.com/workshops, in the newsletter, and are displayed on the wall at the front of the Art Room and in the foyer of the Art Room. You need to register for workshops and pay the fees associated with them.

I don’t know anyone to nominate me so what should I do?

If you don't know a member to nominate you then you can tell us, in a few words, your reasons for choosing to join the Society.

I am not sure how I can help TSA because I am newbie. Please can you clarify?

At TSA everyone’s contribution is valued and there is an expectation that all our members

will assist TSA in some way. There are lots of ways that members help.
